Inland Imaging, one of the West Coast’s leading providers of medical imaging and technology services, has announced it will offer onsite X-rays at no cost to participants of Hoopfest, the world’s largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament that takes place on the streets of Downtown Spokane, Washington.
As in previous Hoopfest tournaments, players who are injured are directed to one of the first-aid tents located throughout the downtown area. A licensed medical provider will assess the player and will treat the injury. Frequently, the question will arise, “is it a fracture or a sprain” and to get the answer, the player may be directed to a hospital or clinic for an x-ray. This year, for the first time in any outdoor 3-in-3 tournament, these X-ray services will be available at no cost to Hoopfest participants.
“We feel this is a great opportunity to help Hoopfest athletes with a quick and accurate diagnosis of injury, eliminating the need to travel to one of our centers or local hospitals,” said Mark Ingalls, X-Ray Manager at Inland Imaging. “We are excited to help the other first-aid tents in providing a safe environment and a quick diagnosis for all the participants.”
"Hoopfest is very grateful for the outstanding services provided to our tournament by our medical partners. The addition of Inland Imaging and its on-site X-ray unit is truly amazing. What an impressive contribution to Hoopfest by a community minded company," said Rick Steltenpohl, Hoopfest Executive Director.
Inland Imaging will provide on-site, or “in-tent,” staff to register patients, conduct X-rays, and send the images via high-speed wireless connection to Inland Imaging’s sports injury and musculoskeletal radiologists. The radiologist will interpret the X-ray images soon after they are taken.
The state-of-the art portable digital x-ray unit was purchased by the Holy Family Foundation for use throughout Holy Family Hospital and was the first of its kind in the region. The technology is utilized daily in the hospital setting during surgery and emergency settings. “It will be a great benefit to injured players to take advantage of this same technology outside a hospital setting,” says Kathleen Wilson, Inland Imaging COO.
The Inland Imaging tent will be located near the carousel next to the Holy Family Hospital first aid tent. The tent was centrally placed in relationship to all other first aid tents in order to allow for easy transportation if an X-ray is needed. Inland Imaging is the first-ever imaging company to offer on-site X-ray services for a large-scale, outdoor athletic event such as Hoopfest.
