Note: Exam frequently ordered with Pelvic and/or Chest CT

General Preparation

Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended. A gown may be given to wear during the study. 

Metal objects including jewelry, eyeglasses, dentures, and hairpins may affect the study and should be left at home whenever possible.

Your patient may be asked to remove hearing aids and any removable dental work.

If over 60 years of age, a blood test may be needed prior to a CT exam.

Your patient should inform you the technologist of all medications they are currently taking and any allergies they have, especially to contrast materials.

The patient shoul inform the technologist of any recent illnesses or other medical conditions, and if you have a history of heart disease, asthma, diabetes, or kidney disease.

Women who may possibly be pregnant should notify the technologist immediately.

Oral Contrast for Abdominal and Abdominal/Pelvic CT studies

Precautions

If your patient has any of the following risk factors, please have them contact Inland for special prep instructions

Allergy to iodinated contrast (x-ray "dye"); age 60 or above; Diabetes; Kidney disease (including kidney tumor, kidney transplant, having only one kidney, high blood pressure), have received chemotherapy within the past 30 days; have multiple myeloma or other hperproteinuremias; have heart disease.

Additional Preparation

Nothing to eat for 4 hours prior to exam.

Oral contrast material and instructions may be picked up at any Inland Imaging center prior to exam date or the patient may come 2 hours prior to study and drink while in our waiting room.

Oral contrast may cause diarrhea.
