Obstetrical

Obstetrical

Ultrasound is a non-invasive way to study many of the organs of the body. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves, which penetrate the body and bounce off the internal structures, giving an electronically produced picture on a computer screen.

Obstetrical ultrasound is used to study the fetus while still in your uterus. Ultrasound can give a complete physical evaluation of a general pregnancy and assist in evaluating a mother and her baby’s health.

Preparation for the Exam

The exam requires a full bladder prior to the study. One hour before the exam, your patient should drink 32oz of water and not void until after the exam.

Procedure

An OB ultrasound examination can be an exciting part of pregnancy and a chance to see a baby before it is born. It is also a great tool ordered to evaluate the pregnancy process.

In order to allow the technologist to concentrate fully and to perform the best clinical study, only one visitor is allowed in the room.

Your patient will be asked to change into a gown provided by Inland Imaging. The technologist will ask the patient to lie on a table and then apply a gel to the skin. The get ensures that the transducer has good contact for sound transmission. The transducer will be placed on your skin and will be moved over your pelvic area as the technologist records the various structures in your pelvic area.

After The Exam

A radiologist will interpret the images and send the results.
