MR is one of the safest, most comfortable imaging techniques
available. It uses a powerful magnet, an advanced computer system, and
radio waves to produce detailed images (pictures) of internal organs,
muscles, tissues, and blood vessels to diagnose medical conditions.
General Preparations
- The patient should wear loose, comfortable clothing. The patient may be given a gown to wear during the study.
- Metal
objects including jewelry, eyeglasses, dentures, and hairpins may
affect the study and should be left at home whenever possible. The
patient may be asked to remove hearing aids and any removable dental
work.
- If the patient is over 60 years of age and IV contrast is indicated, a blood test may be needed prior to the MR exam.
- Please inform the technologist of the patient's prior surgeries, metal implants, pacemaker, or aneurysm clips.
- Please
inform the technologist if the patient is claustrophobic or unable to
lie down for an extended amount of time due to pain so that appropriate
pre-medication can be ordered.
- Women who are nursing or may possibly be pregnant should notify the technologist immediately.
- If
the patient has the following risk factors, please contact Inland
Imaging for special prep instructions: renal disease, over age 60,
history of high blood pressure, diabetes or liver disease.
After The Exam
The images are reviewed and the results are sent.
